Author: Kristen Ashley

When the new girl in town, Eliza “Izzy” Forrester decides to hit the local drinking hole, she’s not ready to meet the town’s good, solid guy. She’s definitely not prepared to engage in her very first hookup with him.

Then Izzy wakes up the next morning in Johnny Gamble’s bed and good girl Izzy finds she likes being bad for Johnny.

Even so, Izzy feels Johnny holding her at arm’s length. But Johnny makes it clear he wants more and Izzy already knows she wants as much of hot-in-bed, sweet-out-of-it Johnny Gamble.

Floating on air thinking this is going somewhere, Izzy quickly learns why Johnny holds distant.

He’s in love with someone else. Someone who left him and did it leaving him broken. Whoever was up next would be runner up, second best. Knowing the stakes, Izzy will take what she can get from the gentleman that’s Johnny Gamble. And even knowing his heart might never mend, Johnny can’t seem to stay away from Izzy.

Until out of nowhere, his lost love comes back to town. He’s not going back, but Johnny still knows the right thing to do is let Izzy go.

And Izzy knew the stakes, so she makes it easy and slips through his fingers.

But that’s before Johnny realizes Eliza moved to town to escape danger that’s been swirling around her.

And that’s why Johnny decides to wade in.

That and the fact Eliza Forrester makes breakfast with a canary singing on her shoulder and fills out tight dresses in a way Johnny Gamble cannot get out of his head.

my FeelingsI have been so skeptical about picking this one up for a while now. Seeing that his first love (who he might not be over) was coming back gave me so much pause. That’s a bit much for my little heart to take. Thankfully, I enjoyed this one more than I thought I would have.

Johnny and Izzy had a rocky start to the beginning of their relationship, but once it started, it was really good! We all know that I adore an alpha male in my romance and Johnny was so damn alpha I don’t think he could help it. I’m really not shocked by that because I have adored all of KA’s heroes I’ve read about so far. He wanted Eliza and he made damn sure she knew it, the town, even the dogs they had. I can’t help but swoon over a man running towards commitment and not from it.

“That was his Izzy. Sexy as fuck and cute as hell.”

I really enjoyed Izzy’s character. She was so sweet and just open to life. Her background was hard but she still came out good. It’s pretty easy to see how Johnny fell for her. She brought some light into his life and showed him that he could love again.

While the ex did come back and want him back, he didn’t entertain her and I let out the breath I had been holding. cheesy right? Well, I seriously was holding my breath when she showed up.

Like most of the KA books that I’ve read, it felt super long. A lot of it had to do with over descriptions of so many things.

While it was quite long and seemed to go on for a while, I did enjoy this one. I’m still surprised about it actually. The next book is about her sister and Johnny’s brother. I’m excited to get their story!

  1. When I read the blurb, I had the same worries as you. I’m not into love triangles, so I would have skipped this one based on the blurb because of that girl coming back. I’m glad to hear that didn’t ruin the book for you! Great review!
