Mini Reviews // Trapping Her, Mooncakes, The Wright Brother

Hi friends! I’m back with another post of mini reviews! This post will include a mix of paranormal romance, a graphic novel, and a contemporary romance!

I was super excited for a paranormal romance from ARR. While it didn’t live up to my expectations, I did enjoy my time reading it.

I think what would have made this one better for me was if it was longer. We didn’t really get a lot of backstory on the vampire species here and it was written in a way that the reader just had to guess.

I did enjoy the couple here but that’s nothing new. I always like ARR’s couples, especially the alpha males she writes. The sex scenes were a bit fade to black and I was a little disappointed but it was still sexy.

To make this short, I did enjoy it but would have loved it if it was a longer book.

I don’t really read a lot of graphic novels so I wasn’t too sure how I would like this one. The story was good and the artwork was really beautiful. I really enjoyed the characters and how much diversity was included here. Both MCs are Chinese – American, we have queer characters including Tam being non-binary, and disability rep because Nova is hard of hearing. Honestly, there is a lot of good here!

What I guess I had trouble with was the pacing of the story. There were quite a few times where it felt as if I was missing something or was reading the second book in a series. I constantly felt like I was missing something. To add to that, even though the relationship between Nova and Tam was really cute, It did seem like they became a couple really fast. One minute they are childhood crushes and then, BAM! They are in a relationship.

While I did have trouble with the pacing, this graphic novel does have a lot of good in it. The artwork was good and there is so much diversity. I think that so many people will love this when it released later this year!

I received an ARC via Netgalley for an honest review.

I had this book sitting on my Kindle for about a year and the only thoughts I have right now is why did I wait so long to read this?! I finished this in one sitting and I’m already one clicking the next book in the series.

I felt the chemistry between Emery and Jenson from the first time they saw each other. Emery dated Jenson’s brother Landon back in high school. So it’s been quite a few years since she’s seen the Wright family. So when Jensen sees Emery again he doesn’t recognize her. And man does he pursue her! The chemistry, the sex scenes, basically everything about this couple made me smile and happy as hell.

We get some conflict here and even though I could have done without it, I still can’t drop my rating. This was also very fun to read about since it’s based in Texas. Lubbock and Austin are places that I have visited and it super fun to read about a book taking place so close to home!

The family dynamic of the Wright siblings was very interesting and fun to read about. The next book is about Landon and Emery’s best friend Heidi. I feel it’s going to be sass and so much steam!

Overall, I loved it and plan on devouring this whole series!

So that wraps up my reviews of some of the romances that I have read recently.

Thanks for reading! ♥

  1. First, did you change your header? I love it! I’m sorry if it’s the same one. I am super tired, so my brain might not be remembering right. 😉

I thought about listening to Trapping Her and I didn’t think it would be my thing. I’m glad you enjoyed it. I pretty much want all those Read Me Romance books to be longer.

  2. I’m so torn on whether or not to pick up Mooncakes. I’m loving all the diversity that’s been hyped in reviews, but the story itself seems to get more mixed reviews. I’ll keep you posted if/when I check it out! Great minis, Kayla!
